New Benefice Office Hours: the office is now open from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays it is open from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

The Benefice has 3 brand new copies of Malcolm Guite’s excellent anthology for Lent, Waiting on the Word, left over from last year’s Lent course. Available for £10 each, well below the normal price, from John Summers.

Taizé service at Caundle Marsh: 18 February, 5pm. All are welcome at this special, contemplative service in wonderful surroundings.

 

Wriggle Valley Mothers’ Union will be holding its annual Lent Lunche at Yetminster Jubilee Hall, Friday 23 Feb. at 12.30pm to 2pm. A selection of soups etc. Donations for MU charities at home and abroad.

Beer Hackett Church, Saturday 24 February, 5.30 for 6pm: a guitar concert given by local musicians Samantha Muir and Lara Taylor, A Celebration of the Guitar. Tickets £10 (£5 children) on sale at the door, to include refreshments. A varied programme of solo and duo works for classical guitar, machete de braga and classical ukulele. There will be a series of weekly meditative Eucharists for Lent, each Wednesday at 11am, in Yetminster church, starting Wed. 21 Feb. Join us for simple, reflective worship focusing on Lenten themes. Further details from John Summers. Morning prayer (BCP) will also be said in Yetminster church during Lent, at 9am, Monday to Thursday, starting Thursday 15 Feb. All are very welcome.

Lent Talks: The Things Jesus Said. These are offered at two locations this year. Either at Thornford Primary School: Thursdays inLent from 22 February, 7.30pm, or Holwell Rectory: Tuesdays in Lent from 27 February, 7.30pm. All are very welcome.

Intercessions workshop: 3pm, Saturday 24 February, St Andrew’s Church, Leigh. For experienced and aspiring intercessors! Light refreshments provided. More information from The Rev. Tony Durkin: 01935 872 117.

Women’s World Day of Prayer: Friday 2 March, 10.30am at St Andrew’s Church, Leigh. Everyone is welcome (not just women!) at this annual service which will be followed by coffee and cake.

Community Breakfast at Glanvilles Wootton HallSaturday 17 February, 9 - 11am.  Breakfast £5 under 10’s free with the purchase of a full price breakfast.There is also an optional freeCountryside Walk departing at 8.30am from the hall car park. Approximately1- 1 1/2 hours. Some stiles also mud expected so waterproof footwear is advised. For more information on 01963 210562. A Community event organised by Holnest Church.

Ryme Intrinseca church is collecting all clean/wearable clothes, bags, belts, hats & shoes (tied together). Towels, blankets, bed linen & soft toys too, but please no duvets, pillows, curtains, pieces of material or rags. Please leave in bags in church porch where they will be collected daily or call Gilly Wilson 01935 872 982 if you need other help.

Community Big Butty Breakfast: Saturday 10 February, 9 – 11am. At Alweston Village Hall. Children’s activity table, preserves and cakes for sale, food bank collection at the hall. A community event organised by Folke church.

Burns’ Night Charity Dinner in aid of Sher-borne Deanery Rural Chaplaincy. Glanvilles Wootton Village Hall, Saturday 27 January at 7pm. A traditional four course dinner is on offer, including canapés, trout mousse with melba toast, pheasant, venison and pickled walnut pie, haggis (optional!) chocolate me-ringue brownie and ice cream, followed by cof-fee. Fundraising concert for a Venezuelan Family in Need: Sunday 14 January, 3pm at the Methodist Church, Cheap Street, Sherborne. Local musicians, raising money for a distressed family in Venezuela, will perform a varied programme including Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Brahms’ Sonatensatz, Britten’s Folk Songs as well as works by Glinka and the Latin American composers, Piazzolla and Guastavino. Tickets £10 on the door to include tea and cake refreshments.
